Please Submit your CQ WW DX Phone Logs

I hope everyone found time to get on the air last weekend and enjoy the amazing conditions and DX activity from around the world in the CQWW DX Phone Contest. Some pretty amazing scores out there, but most of all, a lot of logbooks full of DX!

Just 48 hours after the end of the contest, we have already received approximately 5100 logs!

The log deadline for the CQ WW is now only 5 days after the end of the contest. If you will be submitting a log please do it now.  You can email your Cabrillo format log to ssb@cqww.com.

A more user friendly submission method is to use the new web page that will check your entry before it is submitted to the robot.  Go to http://www.cqww.com/logcheck/ and upload or paste your log into the box. Any formatting errors will be immediately reported to you.  Fix them right there on the page and resubmit.  Once the log is ready to go, simply enter your email address and hit the submit button.  You will receive a confirmation by email from the robot within a few minutes.

Want to make sure your log was received?  Visit the logs received page at http://www.cqww.com/logs_received_ssb.htm to see a real-time updated list of all logs that have been submitted.  (You can follow the number of logs submitted at the top of the page.)  Sort the list by Club name to see if all of your members have submitted their log or spelled the club name correctly.  If not, they can still correct that and submit their log again before the deadline.

No matter how many contacts you made we would appreciate receiving your log.  It helps us with the log checking and let’s CQ Magazine know how much you enjoy the contest.

Rule Changes for 2012

There are a number of rule changes that have been introduced for 2012.

Quick summary:

Rule XIV: All entries must be sent WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS after the end of the contest.

Rule III.13: Post-contest correcting of call signs by using any database, recordings or confirming QSOs is not allowed.

Rule XII.2: All sent and received exchanges are to be logged. In addition to the number exchange, the call sign sent by an entrant during a completed exchange, must be logged as sent by the entrant. All QSO exchanges must be logged upon QSO completion.

Rule XIII.3: Unsportsmanlike conduct can be grounds for action by the CQ WW CC. Examples of unsportsmanlike conduct includes but are not limited to…..post-contest modification of a log by using data sources to correct call sign/exchange errors

Rule III.2 – You must not exceed the total output power limitation of your chosen category on any band. Total output power on any band at any time is measured at the output of the active amplifier(s).

Rule III.14 – All competitors are expected to have read and to comply with the rules of the chosen category. The entrant agrees that any violation of CQ WW contest rules makes the entrant subject to either a red or yellow card (see rule XIII).

Rule XII.2 – …All QSO exchanges must be logged upon QSO completion.

Randy Thompson, K5ZD, Named Director of CQ World Wide DX Contest

(Hicksville, NY) October 1, 2012 — CQ Contest Hall of Fame member and WPX Contest Director Randy Thompson, K5ZD, has been named Director of the CQ World Wide DX Contest, effective immediately. Randy succeeds Bob Cox, K3EST, who retired in September after 35 years at the helm of the world’s most popular amateur radio contest.

Thompson, 53, has been a ham since age 13. He is an accomplished contester, having multiple wins in the CQ World Wide DX Contest and the CQ WPX Contest, among others. He has also competed in four World Radiosport Team Championships. In addition, Randy is a past editor of the “National Contest Journal” (a post he has held three separate times) and a co-founder of the eHam.net website. He is a longtime member of the Yankee Clipper Contest Club and an instructor at K3LR’s Contest University. He has been Director of the CQ WPX Contest since 2008, coincidentally the same year in which he was inducted into the CQ Contest Hall of Fame.

“The CQ WW is the biggest event on the contest calendar,” commented Thompson. “I am honored to be involved and follow in the giant footsteps of K3EST. With the great conditions we are seeing on the bands, this year should be the biggest CQ WW ever! The first order of business is to have the team ready for the new 5-day log deadline and faster results reporting.”

CQ Publisher Dick Ross, K2MGA, said Thompson’s appointment marks the start of a new chapter in the history of CQ World Wide DX Contest, adding “The CQ management team looks forward to working with Randy as CQWW Director. His four years as WPX Contest Director have already demonstrated his ability to successfully and creatively guide a major contest, and we are totally confident that he will take the CQWW to even greater heights.”
