VK3TZSO LOW 40MToughest Conditions I have ever experienced. Absorption on the low bands was wicked. When K3LR, W3LPL and KC1XX are not 20dB over, you know its grim Tried for a 40m or 80m LP record from VK, but not a chance

VK4QSSA HIGH 15MHi Mike, VK4QS here, I entered this years CQ WW SSB Contest not knowing what to expect under the current Bottom end of the Cycle conditions. But as always, Nature surprises us every time with unexpected propagation to see some bands filled and others as quiet as the grave. I managed to work a total of 80 contacts, virtually all unique callsigns across the weekend. I set out with the intention of working as many as I could on 15m, if it was Open. Naturally you take whatever is available and see how the cards fall at the end of the game. I entered as SO HP 15m Assisted, using a 1/4 wave Vertical on 40m & 15m with a Spitfire Reflector off the Back for some gain and F to B Ratio. I also used a 5/8th Vertical for 20m, that also covered for 40m and 15. My rig was a Yaesu FTDX 9000, and a Solid State Homebrew Amplifier built by Glenn VK4BG. ZERO UTC is 10-Am here in Australia, and the CONTEST kicked off with local VK Activity ON 40M. Then 15m fired up here to see contacts spanning Japan,Russia, and Asia. By 3hrs UTC 20m had opened up across the same expance till about 08 after that 40m m opened up at this QTH to offer everything from Alaska to Thailand, Guam, Russia, and South America. 40m was very crowded indeed and it was a struggle to seperate stations only a Kc or two apart. The JA's were out in force which was quite good for numerous prefix variations. The next morning was tough going on 40m as Europe sort to work itself and the US while the VK's screamed in vain just to try and get through. The rest of the contest was much of the same and made for interesting contacts whilst using just a Vertical, even with the Amp. In the end, 80 odd contacts does not seem very much in the big picture, but it was fun and hard work at the same time. Many thanks to the organizers. Keep up the great work you are doing for Amateur Radio Global Contesting. Cheers, Best 73, Mike VK4QS

W1ROSO LOW ALLFun event. Wish I had more time to operate
W2AABSO LOW 40MWhat a grind. Poor propagation made this a tough effort with 100 watts and a wire antenna. Friday night was a near washout, and that set the stage for the whole contest period, at least for me. I hope conditions improve for the CW weekend
W2CCCSA HIGH ALL15m and 40m were in great shape, others, well
W2GPSSA HIGH ALLThis is the first operation of my station since it went dark in May due to home renovations. Everything seems to be working properly now. The last issues were with the new computer built especially for this mission
W2JANSO HIGH ALLROOKIE ---licensed with this call sign
W2JCSA LOW ALLFirst contest using my recently acquired Flex 6600M ... love it !! (even though I'm not much fond of voice contests ...) Oddly, the R7 vertical worked much better than the hex beam on 40 ft. tower or the 40/80m dipoles. Thanks to the many patient 'run' ops that pulled me out of the noise
W2TADSA LOW ALLLooking forward to a certificate this year
W3BGSA HIGH ALLFirst time operating in a contest from new QTH with a zepp wire antenna and it was a humbling experience competing with big-gun stations for contacts
W3TTTSO LOW ALLThank you to everyone who made this contest possible
W3WHKSO LOW ALLHigher score for 2 TO1J QSOs which record as France not Martinique?
W4EESA LOW ALLAnother SSB struggle
W4EFSO HIGH ALLOperated my station in California from my hotel room in Toronto. I had some issues using TeamViewer software to feed my TX audio from my laptop in Toronto to my K3 Transceiver in California. Even though I was using PTT to key the radio, TeamViewer's audio is half-duplex and the software's apparent VOX threshold for cutting off the RX audio has no obvious adjustment and seemed to be all over the place. Nevertheless, I was really happy I was able to participate in 'The Big One'
W4RNSA HIGH 20MThe distortion heard in this contest is excruciating! Can u spell ALC?
