KQ6XSO LOW ALLThanks again for a fun weekend
KS7TSO HIGH ALLFrom the great activity and loud sigs from Japan and Eu. here in MT. on 10 meters no one would know we actually had solar flares and radio blackouts in the prop. reports for the contest weekend. QSB and weaker sigs from EU. stns calling me were a clue, though
KT4ZBSO LOW ALLSo...the CQWW contest committee decided to add a new overlay contest and call it Classic Radio. And the rules say, non-assisted, and only 24 hours. Okay, the 24 hours is all right; but, non-assisted and low power sounds like work to me. Also, it reminds me of contesting with my old FT990 and a 40/80 meter dipole strung across the lot in midtown Savannah years ago. Memories aside, I decided to give it a try. Holy cow, where did all these stations come from? Plus, the solar flux was at 160+ and 15 meters was wide open to Asia. Friday evening was thrilling with 26 JA's, Guam, Mariana Islands, VK, Philippines and Palau in the log. It was almost impossible to work 40 meters with low power. The weekend was all S&P, even the big stations were having problems holding a frequency. I heard but never worked the GT8 calling CQ under two big guns fighting with each other over the frequency...I've been here for 2 hours...NO, NO, I've been here for 3 hours...oh my, maybe that's why it's called amateur radio. It's amazing to see stations on 10 meters above 28.8 MHz. Although I worked non-assisted, there were great DX contacts - 3V7A, 5W1SA, 7Z1SJ, A71BX, AH0BT, AH2R, B9/BY9GA, DU7RH, E2E (probably the first time I've ever worked Thailand in a contest), IS0BSR, NH2T, OA4SS, SV9FBG, T88AZ, TF3CY, V47JA, VP2MDG, and YM3KM to list a few. Special mention goes to HK1NA for the first station outside the US for me to work on all six bands! Another of my favorite contacts was working a KH6 on 80 meters. Gosh, I wonder what all I missed as I had no spots on the bandmap? Thanks to the CQWW committee for sponsoring this great contest and the new Classic Radio overlay...A+++. And thanks to all the folks around the world whose contacts filled my log. Best - Jere FT1000mp Field (100w), TH6DXX, dipoles and N1MM
KT8DSA HIGH ALLStill logging on paper
KU4VSO HIGH ALLAMAZING band conditions, or all my hard work this summer to improve existing antennas, install new wire antennas and ground screens really paid off. No towers or metal beams, only 12 AWG house wiring, and I cannot rotate my trees. Worked stations in directions that used to be nulls. Lots of fun

KV4QS/8SO LOW ALLfirst licensed 27 MAY 2011. N1MM / FT897 / 40m OCF Dipole conditions were good. many thanks to the great ops who could pull my signal out of the mud. 73 KV4QS
KY4PSO HIGH ALLAs always, I wish some ops would not be so stingy with their call signs. It really irks me to wait minutes to hear a call sign only to find that it is a station I have already worked. Often, when they do give it they do so unclearly

LA7HMULTI-ONEThree of ten operators were newcomers in CQWW SSB contest. They did their best. First time for us with a beam antenna for 10-15-20. That helped a lot. A new full wave loop for 160 was a success. Hopefully we made more points than last year. Maybe a milllion next year?
LA7JOSA HIGH 10MThere were no plans to operate the Phone Contest this year from my Norway QTH, except playing around and work a few stations whilst doing other planned chores throughout the weekend. Working a few dozens of contesters in S&P mode on 40, 20, 15 and 10 through Saturday morning showed me there was superb conds on the bands. By early Saturday afternoon my weekend plans were changed, and into contest mode I went the "old fashion way". No DVK, only a hand-mike and a very old (newly repaired) radio setup consisting of a Yaesu FT-980 & an amp Drake L7 (800 W). Truly Karaoke mode. Hi. I decided to continue with 28 MHz only, as I expected that would give me "an early evening off". But NO, - the 10 m. band stayed open until about midnight local time, which is extremely rare at the high northern latitudes. I am up at 63,5 degrees north latitude, approximately the same as Fairbanks, northern Alaska. Well, by Sunday early evening,- when the 28 MHz band closed up here (in a more "normal behaviour"), I had worked 1800 + QSOs on 10 m, with all 40 zones logged as well as 154 entities. In the 20 + hours of effective operation on the 10 m. band, stations kept rolling in. One really felt like being true DX, although being only a small pistol Lima Alpha. What can I say, except - GREAT FUN ! My first CQ WW was back in 1968. This one was certainly on of the more memorable ones ! Perhaps because there were no plans to do the contest (?), - and hence no preparations ? Cu ya'll in the next one,- es 73 de Stig - LA7JO
