| K2SE | SA HIGH ALL | Antennas were all wires: Collinears for 15 (@ 30') & 20 (@ 45') Three half squares, i.e. a tribander for 10, 15 & 20 and two for 40 oriented roughly NE/SW and SE/NW. The 40 meter collinears were loaded for 80. Great weekend, what a difference in conditions! The collinears played well, particularly the new 15 meter version. Loading the 40 meter half squares for 80 was crude but that seemed to work with some definite skewing of the patterns. Still, I was able to work most stations I heard. Biggest thrills were: working D4C on 20 at midnight EST working virtually every JA spotted on 15 on Sunday and holding my frequency on 15 for almost 2 hours on Sunday which definitely helped my score! Needed more punch on 10, was unable to get the W8JK beam into my attic beforehand due to travel commitments. Definitely want it next year! |

| K3CCR | SA HIGH ALL | K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. For the 2023 CQ WW CW, I (N3UM) was the only CW op. I did SOHP Assisted. I hoped to beat the 1.249 M score I claimed in 2022. I did that, with 1.19 X the QSO pts and 1.05 X the total mults, for 1.25 X the claimed score. I did 1.15 X the hours on, but SFI of 180 to 190 vs 110 last year was key. At start on 40 M 00-0232Z I ran at 71/hr for 124 of 175 Qs, mostly EU. On 20 M 0244-0338Z I clicked spots for 37 Qs in EU, NA, SA, OC, & AS. Then 0347 to 0449Z QRT, 55 80-M Qs in 62 min, most EU. Back on 1329-1417Z I clicked on 20 M for 52 Qs in 48 min, ~all EU. Next 1422-1510Z 48 10-M Qs in 48 min, EU & a few SA. Then on 15 M 1511-1623Z I got 66 EU & NA Qs and quit to eat. After lunch 1835-1908Z 19 more EU & NA Qs, plus Zones 31, 32, & 28. Then 48 Qs in 48 min on 10 M, most NA & SA + Zones 31 & 35. Hot on 20 M 1947-2149Z 92 Qs, many EU + OX, E2, 3 ZS, 3 VK, 6 JA, KL, & VR. Back after supper 2334Z, I got C6 & DU on 20 M. On 40 M 2344-0119Z got 92 Qs in 95 min clicking spots, most EU. Kp=4 0130-0247Z I still got 47 mostly EU 80-M Qs, but 160 M was trashed 2 Qs! Got 10 40-M Qs by 0302Z QRT in EU, SA, NA, & AF. Back at 1234-1342Z, I went for bulk Qs and got them. I ran on 20 M at 71/hr for 70 of 78 Qs ~all EU, 1 VU. Hot on 15 M 1354-1607Z, 115 Qs clicking EU & a few NA, + 3B9. I got 1 NA + 29 EU 10-M Qs in 33 min, 1611-1644Z and quit to eat. Back 1939-2010Z I got 10 last 10-M Qs (KL, ZL, FW5, & 4 SA mults) & 5 last 15-M Qs + 6 mults. Then on 20 M 2015-2223Z, 82 20-M Qs + BY 9M OH0 & T2. On 40 M 2228 to 2321Z QRT, I got 42 last Qs many EU + 7 mults. I missed just 5 Zones in Siberia, West VK, & AF |

| K5RX | SO HIGH 160M | I endured strong line noise from a pole 3187' away bearing 177 degrees, just on the other side of the road. I used the 135 degee Beverage as a noise antenna and the inverted L as the main antenna with a noise canceller, but it only reduced the noise a bit. The noise no doubt radiated down the power line over a wide azimuth, limiting the noise reduction to 3 - 5 dB, instead of the 20 dB typical with more of a point source. Only had one other Beverage up, 730' long at 275 degrees, but KH6LC was the only station I worked in that direction. Conditions seemed quite poor on 160 m |

| K6NA | SO HIGH ALL | I really enjoyed this year's running of WW CW. Activity level was high with many expeditions in play, and propagation was good to excellent on all bands for most of the weekend. I was well-rested coming in, and the WX cooperated also with some light rain on Friday which helped quiet some of the QRN. I scored a personal-best in this one. As usual, I was unassisted because I still enjoy tuning the big knob and finding (or missing!) the multipliers myself. I believe this is the first time I have reached the 400-mark (401) in the total country count, and scored 3 million points. Presently I have one antenna per band, except for 10m where I have two (not stacked). Last year I still had two antennas on 20m, but in 2023 my lower side-mount rotator flag broke due to corrosion, so the old KLM 5el is currently out of service leaving only the 204BA available for the contest. In this old station, things are breaking faster than I can repair them! I'm making progress toward getting old antennas fixed or replaced but it's slow. EU was in there on 10, but far fewer signals on Saturday than when its fully open. 10 meter EU signals were better on Sunday. The other bands were all good as well I worked 19 EU stations on 80 which is not common given my local QRN. Thanks for the QSOs everyone. | K7NJ | SA HIGH 40M | Conditions were unusual. Apparently, there was strange aurora activity. The band was very quiet with no detectable background noise - something that I've never experienced before. Some spotted areas were not heard at all. Greeneland is an example. There were several stations active that were spotted, but could not be heard. The antennas include an 8-circle and a toploaded vertical for 160M fed through a dedicated 40M tuner at the base. Receiving also used one of three bi-directional Beverages. I found a problem using the 8-circle in two directions - JA and the Caribbean. In those directions, the 54 foot vertical and Beverages were used. The station includes a K3S and an Acom 2000A amplifier |

| K8KI | SA HIGH ALL | My Flex, SPE/1.3k, and quad antenna worked great. 160 and 80 wouldn't tune well. It really gives me a warm feeling to see what 1000 watts will do in a pileup. Op memories: 1. So many ops calling out of sync with the DX. 2. Weak sigs causing a feeding frenzy with no hope of a contact, while an adjacent strong sig just was waiting for me to call. 3. Finding that the function keys on my keyboard wouldn't work. I don't have nearly the energy I once had. 500 contacts isn't much, but I don't think I'll be able to do this many next time. I liked younger better. This time I worked it just for fun, and such grand fun it was! Got Reunion twice! |
